Book Review: The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg

One of the many non-business books that I believe all managers should read. Why? Management is about relationships and helping people grow. Sometimes growth requires change and the only way you are going to be able to do that is to understand how humans work.

This book does a great job explaining habits, how we develop them, and how we can change them.

One of the key lessons for me is how triggers are always there and many times those triggers aren't conscious choices. It becomes the path of least resistance and we do it for no other reason than we always have. In fact, we don't even really think about it. Change the trigger - change the habit.

I suggest reading this book and then working to identify your triggers. Until you can do this for yourself, it is hard to recognize or coach others on it.
