Power Skills Vs. Technical Skills

In having many conversations with other leadership coaches, one thing is clear. The skills in the biggest demand are empathy, inclusion, and making connections. In the past, it would have been strategy, decision making, and other technical skills.

These power skills (let's get rid of the term soft skills) are an inevitable offshoot from the changes in the workplace. This predates Covid. With the specialization and the speed of change in information, there was no way managers could keep up with it all. Where in the past, they got the role because of their technical expertise, now they should get it because they know how to deal with people and get the best out of them and their expertise.

This change is a long time coming, but it is the right thing and will be transformational to the world of management and leadership.
