Fairness is a Skill, not an Attitude

Brian Watkins

A big misconception is that fairness isn’t a skill. People tend to see it more of an attitude. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Fairness is a skill and it is a behavior. It is something at which you need to continually work. You have to constantly be reflecting on the decisions made and determining whether they were truly fair or not. You have to remind yourself that this is a goal.

Much like communication, if you are not constantly reflecting and developing your fairness behavior, you will start to lose the skill. It isn’t something you learn once and it stays with you forever.

Consider fairness your “shark” behavior - it has to keep moving forward or it will die.
