Autonomy is Your Friend

One of the best ways to build engagement with employees is to give them autonomy. Essentially, this means letting them chose how, and sometimes when, to do the work.

This is why setting expectations is so important. When the individual has all the necessary information, they can make these decisions. The can also communicate any issues that might prevent meeting the expectation.

Focus on the deliverable and let the employee decide the how.
